Operation "Litani" was a large-scale IDF operation in south Lebanon, a response to Palestinian terrorist activities after the Coastal Road Massacre, an attack on an Israeli bus in which 35 Israeli civilians, several of them children, were murdered. When the IDF withdrew, the area was transferred to the control of UNIFIL and the South Lebanon Army.
