The operation was a daring assassination carried out in Tunisia by forces from the IDF's Chief of Staff Reconnaissance Unit, Israeli Navy commandoes, the Israeli Air Force and the Israeli Navy in collaboration with the Mossad. During the operation, Khalil al-Wazir, known as Abu Jihad, who was one of the founders of the Fatah movement, head of the PLO's military-terrorist wing PLO and Yasser Arafat's deputy, was assassinated. Forces infiltrated his home and killed him and his bodyguards. His wife, Umm Jihad, his daughter Hanan and his two-year-old son Nidal were unharmed.
