Operation Protective Edge came in the wake of the abduction and murder of three Israeli teenagers. Its objectives were to stop rocket fire at Israeli cities, attack Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist facilities, and neutralize the threat of attack tunnels dug by Hamas towards Israeli territory.
