A team of soldiers sent to install a wiretapping device in Syria was captured. One of the soldiers, Uri Ilan, later took his own life in prison. Hidden between his toes, a note was found after his death, bearing the words: "I did not betray."
Following this tragic event, Unit 504 established the "Jet Unit," which carried out a series of infiltrations into Syria. These included the Carmel operations, during which "Crickets" wiretapping devices were installed.
