Egypt attacked the Israeli Navy destroyer Ahi Eilat with "Styx" missiles fired from Komar-class missile boats ships near Port Said, killing 47 and wounding 91. Investigation revealed that Military Intelligence had not been informed of the ship's route and a few hours before the attack, information was intercepted regarding an Egyptian intention to attack in the area of Port Said. However, the information was not transmitted to the commander of the destroyer.
The success of the "Styx" missile obligated naval intelligence to develop deceptive measures to prevent Israeli vessels from being hit in the future.
