Operation "Crate 3" was a Sayeret Matkal commando operation to kidnap Syrian officers for the release of three Israeli air crew members captured by the Syrians. The operation was conducted in south Lebanon after information had been received regarding the arrival of senior Syrian officers to the area. The captured officers included a general, two colonels and two lieutenants from Syrian Air Force Intelligence. The head of Syrian intelligence escaped.
